It is an astonishing fact that over 160 billion pounds of food is wasted each year in the US. Food waste happens at home and various stages of the supply chain. Unfortunately, some of it also comes from food expiring on the shelves of grocery stores. Stop Waste Together is a non-profit initiative by Pinpoint Software that utilizes their proprietary expiration date management software Date Check Pro to arm retailers with a template marketing campaign to help reduce food costs.
The Brief
Andrew, CEO of Pinpoint Software, contacted us looking for a single-page website launching their new, non-profit initiative Stop Waste Together (SWT). He wished the site to help raise awareness of the program and allow interested parties to easily contact them for more information. Their focus is on helping retailers promote the sale of soon-to-expire items and raising awareness of their efforts to shoppers. In this partnership between retailers and shoppers, they can maximize both food waste prevention and shopper savings.
Our Approach
Stop Waste Together had a logo that represented their brand. When designing their responsive website, it seemed wise to utilize the greens in the logo and the popular “green” recycling mindset and pair that with complimentary oranges to make important details stand out. We used large, impactful images to visually portray the SWT initiative in a simple, flat web design. Participating retailers are highlighted with their logos on a rotating slider and future stores can easily be added to this list. Additionally, once data is collected from the first stores to roll out the program, a counter will be added to show the impact and amount of products/money the Stop Waste Together has saved.
At the bottom of the page, a contact form was added to collect submissions from shoppers and supermarkets looking for more information about the program. Interested website visitors will be sent a packet of information that they can bring to their local store and share with management about getting the Stop Waste Together program in their local store.
The Result
Stop Waste Together is a great community effort and we hope that it continues to grow nationwide! In doing so, we can prevent even greater amounts of food from ending up in landfills, help customers save on food, and help retailers promote their good effort to their customers. Additionally, all the profits made through this program are donated to local food pantries in Madison, WI.
Next time you’re shopping at the supermarket, lookout for the money-saving SWT coupons on the products you are buying and let’s Stop Waste Together!
